EBIRA PEOPLES ASSOCIATION
We would like to commiserate with the family of Late Alhaji Abubakar Audu and the entire people of Kogi State over his passing away. It is indeed a great loss to the family but to humanity. We pray that Almighty God grant him the respite of the Heaven and give the family the fortitude to bear this huge irreparable loss.
We would also like to seize this opportunity to thank God for His mercies in taking control of the events of the past few days following his death. We also appreciate the good people of Kogi State for their patience and support in this trying period.
Ebira Peoples Association (EPA), the Apex Body of Ebira People is hereby pleased to make its position known regarding issues surrounding the substitution of Alhaji Yahaya Bello in place of the late Prince Abubakar Audu (of blessed memory) for the Saturday 5th December 2015 supplementary Governorship Election.
In line with that position, Ebira Peoples Association (EPA) expresses her support for the choice of Alhaji Yahaya Bello as announced by the National Working Committee of All Progressives Congress (APC). We believe this decision is not only rational and legal and indeed only reasonable way to address the constitutional lacuna that the issue surrounding the sudden death of Prince Audu has created.
We, Ebira Peoples Association, believe in the rule of law and sincerely advise any aggrieved party to please resort to legal instrument to address any perceived injustice as any resort to any other means will be counter-productive, which will in the long run affect the unity and peaceful co-existence of our beloved people of Kogi State.
It is noteworthy that Ebira as a people have always supported all the elected Governors in the State regardless of their ethnic background because we believe that all the ethnic groups in the State have the capacity and the ability to contribute positively to the development of the State including the capacity to govern effectively.
We call on all the people of Kogi State to reflect on the fact of history that since the creation of the State 24 years ago, the various ethnic groups have remained partners in constructive political, social and economic development of the State and wonder why the current political situation and decisions arising from an unprecedented act of God should be misconstrued.
We call on His Excellency, Governor Idris Wada, as the Chief Security Officer of the State, not to only see himself as a candidate of a political party but as the Executive Governor whose primary duty is to ensure that citizens’ lives and properties are safeguarded irrespective of individual’s political affiliation. He should as a matter of urgency ensure the provision of security to violence-prone areas and work hard to guarantee the freedom of movement and civic rights of the people of the State.
We implore all our Kogi brothers and sisters across the State to be patient, eschew violence, and give total support to the popular choice of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Alhaji Yahaya Bello. Please
While we implore all our Kogi brothers and sister across all the ethnic groups to join hands together to move the State forward, as we believe Alhaji Yahaya Bello will ensure fairness, equity, justice and peaceful co-existence of all in the State when he eventually becomes the Executive Governor.
Long Live Kogi State.
Long Live Nigeria.
